These super healthy, gluten-free & added oil-free tortillas are a great way to get in your daily intake of flax. I infused these with turmeric and spices. Great to eat on their own or make healthy salad wraps.
I buy organic flaxseed meal in the 4-pound bag. The exact product I used is under “Grocery Items” found here.
RECIPE 1 cup flaxseed meal (ground flax seeds) ⅔ cup water 1 tsp turmeric ¼ tsp black pepper ½ tsp garlic powder ½ tsp onion powder In a medium saucepan, bring the ⅔ cup of water to a boil.
Then turn off the heat and mix in all the ingredients.
Keep mixing until it forms a firm dough. It might still be a little wet.
Push the mixture down and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
Once it is set, remove and place on a cutting board.
Divide into 5 equal pieces and roll them into balls.
I prefer to use my cast iron tortilla press.
The one I use is available under “Kitchen Appliances & Tools” found here.
If using a tortilla press make sure to press the dough balls between two pieces of plastic.
Make sure you also use two pieces of plastic or a gallon plastic bag to roll them in.
Otherwise, the dough will stick.
COOKING
In a medium skillet cook each tortilla for about 60 seconds on each side.
They will be good in the refrigerator for about 5 days.
Experiment by adding other spices and flavors you enjoy.
This recipe will make 5 tortillas and each will provide a full days worth of flax + turmeric.
